Join Simon and Monica for a painting holiday in Spain from Saturday 4th October – Saturday 11th October 2024 which will be based on the beautiful Costa Brava, close to both Barcelona and Girona airports.

The Costa Brava boasts a rugged coastline with a mix of beautiful coves and long sandy beaches. It is also home to some of the most picturesque fishing villages on the Spanish coast. We’ll also be exploring some of the historic traditional villages inland that have stood still in time – the perfect locations for a painting holiday in Spain.

Our painting holidays in Spain are a maximum of 8 students and are aimed at painters of all abilities. Each day you will have the opportunity to paint in a different location under the guidance of Simon, your experienced painting tutor. He’ll help you improve your watercolor techniques, give advice where needed, suggest compositions and choice of colours, as well as help you unravel the mysteries of 1, 2, and 3-point perspective. We’ll present you with a personal A4 travel journal (300gsm/140lb watercolour paper) in which you’ll be able to add sketches and paintings throughout your week. The perfect memento of your Painting Holiday in Spain.

Monica, a creative cook has designed a wonderful tasting experience for your holiday. This includes picnics as well as an introduction to some authentic Spanish eateries. Suppers are mainly catered at your accommodation where you’ll be introduced to an array of local dishes as well as a enjoying a grand night out in a local restaurant.

This holiday does require some walking, so participants need to be mobile to get to some of the painting locations.

Having spent decades in diverse commercial art, Simon has discovered immense pleasure in capturing moments through watercolour, deeming it the perfect medium for the traveling artist. His passion was reignited during a solo motorcycle journey from England to Kathmandu, documented meticulously in a 7-month illustrated journal. Now, on your painting vacation, he will guide you in mastering composition and lighting, imparting that elusive extra charm to your art. This unspoiled region of Spain boasts a beautifully rugged coastline and is dotted with traditional Spanish villages.

Our accommodation is a beautiful traditional old farmhouse about 25 minutes away from the coast in a small village. The large house has 7 bedrooms and bathrooms. Its ensuite accommodation offers all the convenience of a hotel with the privacy of your own house. There are 2 living room areas and large terrace where you can enjoy a sundowner around the pool, or take a walk in the spacious private gardens.

  • Day 1: Arrival

Meet everyone in Barcelona: From here we’ll take you to the accommodation where you’ll be able to settle in before welcome drinks and an introduction to the holiday over dinner.

  • Day 2: Peratallada

After breakfast we’ll make our way to the nearby medieval town of Peratallada – a town declared an historical-artistic site of natural interest. We’ll spend the morning here amongst the ancient alleyways and squares, doing some sketching and painting, and taking some reference photos. After a light lunch in the village square, we’ll make our way back to the house to relax and/or continue painting before dinner at the house.

  • Day 3: Calella de Palafrugell

Off to the coast today and the beautiful old fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell. We’ll locate ourselves down in the harbour where there’s a wide range of painting and sketching options. We’ll have a lunch in a local restaurant then return to the accommodation to relax and/or work on the morning sketches. Dinner at the house.

  • Day 4: Pals

Today’s location will be another medieval village – Pals. We’ll set up in a central location and sketch and paint throughout the morning. Lunch will be in a local restaurant before returning to our accommodation to enjoy the shady terrace and pool. Dinner at the house.

  • Day 5: Free Day in Girona

A free day in Girona. We’ll take everyone into the historic town of Girona where you’ll be able to sketch and take in the sights like the Cathedral and Basilica, visit the museums or shop for souvenirs. We’ll be able to give you plenty of tips.

  • Day 6: Sa Tuna

Today we’ll be back at the coast at the beautiful village of Sa Tuna set in an unspoilt cove. After a morning’s painting we’ll have a lunch in one of the beach-side restaurants before making our way back to the house later in the afternoon. Once again, time to relax before dinner.

  • Day 7: Botanical Gardens and Sea scapes

Today’s destination is the picturesque botanical gardens just along the coast from Palafrugell. There’s plenty of good locations to paint within the gardens and we’ll be taking a picnic to enjoy in a shady spot. In the afternoon, we’ll make our way back to the accommodation to relax and do some early packing before our last dinner.

  • Day 8: Time to leave

After breakfast we’ll all climb into the minibus around 10.00 and head to Barcelona (around 2 hours) for a final drop off. Details to be confirmed as and when we have people’s travel plans.
